We're Hearing Flowing Melancholy In This Photo by Eponine Huang

Listen

Hii's Image Association Game. “Let’s give sound to this dreamy and ethereal image, chosen by Claw Yo Eyes Out nail artist, Lily Lin"

ABC
[Jeff Buckley - Lover You Should've Come Over] The image invokes a certain pensive sadness for me, which is also so perfectly captured by forlorn king Jeff Buckley in this sweet but deeply melancholy song.

Hayley
[Björk - Cocoon] The flowing fibers of the picture give the sense of being wrapped up in a blanket, but still exude coldness due to the color pallet. That's one of the things Bjork does best, especially on her album Vespertine, the feelings of warmness and coldness together as one.

Lily

[Kelela - Jupiter] I’ve been looking at Vogue China’s editorials for inspiration lately and I saw a photo that was taken by this photographer from Beijing named Eponine Huang. This gorgeous photo caught my attention and I decided to look at her work on Instagram. She typically has photos with models in them but for the one I chose above, I couldn’t help but continue looking at it. I immediately thought of Kelela’s Jupiter, where the beat sounds dreamy and her vocals are ethereal. The blue color and the noise in the photo fit so well with this song, especially towards the end.

Torin
[Brandee Younger - Come Live With Me (Interlude)] Soft + Flowing

Sarah
[Mazzy Star - Bells Ring] That photo is so reminiscent of images from this 90s makeup book my mom had when I was a kid, with all these muted blue eyeshadows. Has to be Mazzy for me!

Kira
[Kara Jackson - dickhead blues] Aside from the obvious color comparison (which didn’t not inform my choice, let’s be real), the swirling, layered, flowing fabric in this image evokes this track’s initially simple instrumentation leading into a textured sea of swirling strings, flowing percussion, and layered vocals. “I’m not as worthless as I once thought / I am pretty top-notch”, Kara sings, these words an apt companion to what I see in this image - letting yourself be free to move.
