- Favorite White Label
4.25.2023

Jacob Gambino talks to Hii about the Bristol music scene in the early 2010s and how it led to the discovery of his favorite white label.
"My white label selection is a record released in 2013 - Kowton - F U All The Time. It comes out of Bristol, which has always had a vibrant and standalone music scene in England. In the 'post dubstep' era that emerged in the early 2010s, there were really interesting records coming out of that part of the world from artists like Julio Bashmore, Kowton, Peverelist, Hodge. It was the peak of my rinse.fm listening days, chasing the yet-to-be-released records they beamed all over the world. This was also a time in my life when I started to appreciate space and sonics in the club a lot more than chasing the partygoers at the party. I still listen a decade later to many Bristol artists I found during those years.
Kowton is the artist that drew me to this record initially, but both sides are still great 10 years on. It is a LOUD record in the sense that it demands a certain speaker and decibel to really deliver its full impact. The edit of the popular Jeremih record, 'F U All The Time' is a real late night thumping yet understated tune in some ways. The flip side is probably what I come back to more often, I have a very sentimental, nostalgic spot for all of the music I was lapping up in that part of my collecting and party life."
