Laura Brunisholz's New York in Grey

Listen

Synesthesia is a collection of playlists curated by creative minds from an array of disciplines. Based on a unique prompt inspired by omnipresent themes familiar in our everyday lives, each playlist serves as a sonic representation of the individual’s interpretation of what an abstract concept means, feels, and sounds like to them

Laura Brunisholz (1996) was born and raised in Paris, France, where she studied psychology, before moving to Brussels to attend the experimental and interdisciplinary art school erg (école de recherche graphique). While in Brussels, she developed her practice of photography and video art, self-publishing zines and showing her work in exhibitions (such as (RIGHT IN) THE FEELS, an exhibition featuring over 50 international artists), and built strong ties to an international community of creatives. Laura’s interest in music and the people who make it, as well as her time working for popular radios Kiosk in Brussels and The Lot in New York City, has led her to shoot pictures with musicians as well as direct and edit music videos; and the narrative quality of her work is reflected in the edgy yet intimate portraits she takes of artists. Laura’s practice blends elements of conceptual photography with the aesthetic of social-media or amateur pictures, a high-art meets home video style infused with her love for Americana. All in all, her work speaks directly to the way we consume and produce images in the contemporary world, how we infuse them with stories and meaning through accumulation and sharing.
