A round up of some of the best music for June’s Bandcamp Friday
In response to the global pandemic and its devastating effects on the music industry, Bandcamp started to periodically waive its fees for 24 hours and give 100% of proceeds from the site directly to artists and labels.
HOWEVER, for the first time since the start of the pandemic, we’ve closed the first week of the month without a Bandcamp Friday. The music distribution platform had set their first friday initiative to end in May 2021, yet recently announced that after a momentary break, “The next Bandcamp Friday will be on August 6th, and we’ll continue to hold those on the first Friday of every month thereafter for the rest of 2021.”
Bandcamp goes on to state that “If you’ve started to feel guilty about buying music on any day other than Bandcamp Friday, here’s something to keep in mind: on Bandcamp Fridays, an average of 93% of your money reaches the artist/label (after payment processor fees). When you make a purchase on any other day of the month (as 2.5 million of you have since March, buying an additional $152 million worth of music and merch) an average of 82% reaches the artist/label. Every day is a good day to directly support artists on Bandcamp!” (Source)
Basically, concentrated attention can still have a noticeable effect on artists.
So let’s concentrate!
