Aerial Views of Tulips in the Netherlands

Listen

Hii Teams' Bi-Weekly Image Association Game. “Let’s give sound to Yves Herman’s Aerial Views of Tulips in the Netherlands”

What song do you associate with the below image? Find out what our team thinks and listen to the accompanying playlist.

(Selected by ABC)

KT:

[Brian Eno & David Byrne - Solo Guitar With Tin Foil] “This submission is solely because the image reminds me of the album cover for My Life in the Bush of Ghosts! though it sounds like David Byrne and Brian Eno went to certain lengths to get the samples and voices they used approved, the record feels appropriative to me and i am a little embarrassed to own a copy. I'm dropping what feels like the least problematic track here!”

[Stina Nordenstam - I Came So Far For Beauty] “i'm really enjoying the van in this image, isolated among a ton of crowded and color-clashing rows of tulips. feels like the vocal in this song feels to me :slightly_smiling_face:

Hayley:
[Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Y Control] “The planets for some reason really remind me of early/mid 2000s indie rock, something with a driving angular vibe. Y Control by Yeah Yeah Yeahs feels appropriately aerial”

Kira:
[The Strokes - What Ever Happened?] “Purely based on visuals, this image brought to mind the album art for The Strokes "Room on Fire” so I’m gonna go with the first song on that album!”

MJ:

[LSD and the Search for God - This Time] + [Aterciopelados - Luz Azul] “The vibrant serenity of the image with the van in center feels as though it could be the closing shot of a road trip film. These in my opinion could be contenders to encapsulate such a finale, fading from colorful rows into black and white credits.”

Spurge:
[Basic Channel - Radiance II] “The vibrancy and space of this photo immediately evoked some dub techno / ambient for me. The last time I sat and really listened to Basic Channel was on an airplane so this aerial image made them jump out to me. It really does feel like you’re flying and just cast out in the clouds listening to this track.

[Pearly - Mellon] “On the flip side, this track feels like the early 2000s road trip that’s playing out with the van here, that would surely be playing some soft 90s grunge music. The photo really makes me think of the film Garden State for some reason and I see I’m not alone picking up those vibes based on what everyone else is picking in the playlist. Also, selfishly Pearly are my friends and I really dig their music BUT the video for this song has all those feels and I highly recommend checking it out for more of the same energy.

Guin:

[The Avalanches - Because I’m Me] “Technicolor happiness dreamscape :)“

Torin:
[David Bowie - Memory Of A Free Festival] “I'm imagining the van there is a '60s VW bus and this song is playing on the radio. A wonderful setting for a free festival as the sun machine comes down....”
